Wenger keen for Gallas extension

Thursday 11th March, 2010

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger retains hope that central defender William Gallas will agree a new contract to remain with the Premier League title hopefuls beyond the end of the season.

The 32-year-old's current deal runs out in a matter of months and Italian club Roma are rumoured to be keen to tempt Gallas to move on after four seasons with the Gunners, with Arsenal among the 188BET favourites for the title.

Wenger commented: "I am not concerned, he is under contract until the 30th of June. We have not found an agreement yet.

"I meet his agents again next Thursday and we will try to find a solution.

"I feel I have to respect both parties and not to come out about the details of negotiations.

"I do not know if he has spoken to Roma, but he is out of contract and can talk to whom he wants.

"William is speaking to us and our desire is to keep him here. I think he wants to stay here."

Gallas has racked up nearly 150 appearances for Arsenal to date, having previously made his name in England with Chelsea, where he made well over 200 appearances during a five-year stay.
